Number 10: Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome

Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS) also known as, Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder (PGAD) is a phenomenon relating mainly to women’s sexual health, in which afflicted female complain of acute and recurrent feelings of genital arousal that are different from the kind of sexual arousal that is associated with sexual desire or subjective arousal.

Elephantiasis is characterized by gross enlargement of an area of the body, especially the limbs. Some of the other areas that are commonly affected include the external genitals. Elephantiasis is caused by obstruction of the lymphatic system, which results in the accumulation of a fluid called lymph in the affected areas.

Patients with neurofibromatosis often experience only mild symptoms. Effects of neurofibromatosis can range from hearing loss, learning impairment, and heart and blood vessel (cardiovascular) complications to severe disability due to nerve compression by tumors, loss of vision and severe pain.  Neurofibromatosis is usually diagnosed in childhood or early adulthood.

Trimethylaminuria is a disorder in which is due to the body being unable to break down trimethylamine. As trimethylamine builds up in the body, it causes affected individual to give off a strong odor in their sweat, urine, and breath. Trimethylamine has been described as smelling like rotting fish, rotting eggs, garbage, or urine. The intensity of the odor may vary over time. The odor can interfere with many aspects of daily life, affecting a person’s relationships, social life, and career. Some people with trimethylaminuria experience depression and social isolation as a result of this condition.

Cotard’s syndrome aka, Walking corpse syndrome is an uncommon neuropsychiatric disorder in which patients experience delusions or false beliefs that they are dead, do not exist, are putrefying or have lost their vital organs. In some cases, they can even smell the rotting flesh. The condition can simply be described as “existence denial“. It is sometimes accompanied by symptoms of guilt, anxiety and negativity. Paradoxically, some patients may have delusions of immortality.

This process generally becomes noticeable in early childhood, starting with the neck and shoulders and proceeding down the body and into the limbs.
