Kernig’s sign:
kernig’s sign, is one of the physically demonstrable symptoms of meningitis, which is is an acute inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord as a source of protection, known collectively as the meninges. Severe stiffness of the hamstrings causes an inability to straighten the leg when the hip is flexed to 90 degrees.
Another useful physical test for diagnosing meningitis is called Brudzinksi’s sign.
